A
6-week Saturday course providing an introduction to news and features
journalism.
This course will give you a good grounding in the basics of journalism
and valuable feedback on the pieces that you write. If you are thinking
of working in journalism, this gives a good opportunity to discover
if you would really enjoy it - and whether you can do it - before
you give up your existing career.
The course tutor will be Tony Padman,
an experienced journalist on national and local newspapers.

Inverted pyramid style of writing, quotes,
finding the news angle |

Combining introduction, facts and quotes, editing
the news report |

Body language, feature introductions, asking
difficult questions |

Short features, more on interviewing, evaluating
your skills |
| Week 6: |
Libel, the PCC, approaching the commissioning
editor, the future |
There are four writing assignments included in the course - all of which will give students feedback from the course tutor.
